Attend the Celebrated Sherman School Art Show on May 11 & 12

IMG_3507Now in its 24th year, there will be two glorious days of student artwork on display at the Sherman School Art Show. As always, this well-attended event is open to art enthusiasts of all ages! This year’s exhibit hours will take place on Wednesday, May 11, and Thursday, May 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the evening reception will be on Wednesday, May 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

IMG_2792 SQUAREAlisyn Hamilton, the Sherman School’s inspiring art teacher and art show curator, is always amazed by the tremendous creativity that comes from all of the stIMG_3493udents in Pre-K through the Eighth Grade. Some of what’s new this year are owl collages, monster drawings, and polar bear pastels from Kindergarten students. Cardinal collages, winter scene pastels, Native American pictographs, foil collages in symmetry, and Klimt inspired crayon etchings by the elementary grades will also be featured. From the middle school artists, there will be interesting ceramic face jugs and detailed acrylic self-portraits in the style of the master painters to visually enjoy.

IMG_3516Mrs. Hamilton said, “we increased our focus and study specifically on the elements of art, art history and art appreciation this year, including the study of many well-known artists. We have enjoyed using our new kiln and subsequently increased the variety and number of our ceramic projects. We also recently received a new projector and this enabled us to view artwork online, create lesson tutorials, and learn so much more about many artists.”

IMG_3517As for all the extras, the Ice Cream Social, sponsored by the Sherman Education Association (SEA), is back at the evening reception! The cost is $3 per person and 100% of the proceeds will go to the Pat Warde Scholarship Fund. The Sherman School’s music teacher, Steven Trinchillo, will also be directing the live musical performances by some of the school’s talented student musicians.

Admission to the art show at the Sherman School is free.
