Like so many local business owners hit hard by the pandemic, Gary Gordon – owner of The Dive Shop Aquatic Center – is beyond relieved to be open for business once again.
“Opening the doors on Wednesday was a tremendous relief for me. I’m so glad to see that many of our members are slowly coming back and, so far, it’s a slow-steady flow of activity,” said Gary.
Lap swimmers, like myself, are welcomed and delighted to be back. Never again, will we take for granted how this local swimming and scuba diving facility will always be accessible for a workout or dive in the pool.
To be expected, there are a lot of changes with Phase 2 of the State’s reopening plan.
With The Dive Shop’s six lane, 25-yard indoor swimming pool, only one lap swimmer is allowed per lane, or a few family members can also share the same lane.
The Dive Shop Aquatic center encourages children to swim with their parents in a lap lane when the facility is open. There are no restrictions or time limits.
An insider tip for swimmers: Call ahead and plan your swim during non-peak hours, like after the early morning rush. This way, social distancing can be maintained.
The Dive Shop’s jetted therapy pool can also be used by those needing to do physical therapy exercises or just wanting to relax in the warm water to get a deep tissue massage. However, its limited to four people at one time, for social distancing.
The Dive Shop was also given the green light to offer Scuba Diving Lessons with one or two people per class.
As for Aqua Aerobics, the morning class that meets every M, W & F can start up again. However, members and guests need to call ahead to make a reservation because space is limited.
Swim lessons for all ages and skill levels will likely start in late July / early August. If interested, call for details and your best bet is to get on the waiting list.
Red Cross Lifeguard courses are also offered every weekend. This facility is one of the few centers in Connecticut teaching Lifeguarding this summer. Call for more information.
Monthly and Annual Memberships are available. Call for details.
A no commitment Day Pass and a 10 visit Swim Pass punch card are also available.
