On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, the Connecticut Department of Labor (CT DOL) – Office of Research released their monthly Business and Employment Changes Announced in the Media report. In the month of March, four companies announced plans to collectively hire a total of 560 employees.
The Hartford Yard Goats, a Double-A minor league baseball team, plans to hire 300 employees. Bob’s Discount Furniture will expand its corporate headquarters in Manchester and plans to hire 125 employees within five years. Sky Zone Trampoline will open a new location in Norwalk and plans to hire 120 employees this spring. KLX Aerospace Solutions opened a new office in Berlin and plans to hire 15 employees.
As for layoffs and staff reductions announced in March, Walmart continues to downsize and close 269 stores globally. Across the United States, they plan to close 154 stores. Walmart’s Derby location is closing in July, impacting 150 employees.
